Graphic design on the radio

Paul Davis reveals all on live radio

OK, it’s not exactly Desert Island Discs, but Graphic design on the radio, presented by Adrian Shaughnessy, is becoming something of an institution.

The guest on today’s programme, which goes out at 4pm on Resonance FM is illustrator Paul Davis, whom we featured in ‘Looking for clues’ (Eye no. 55 vol. 14), a profile by Rick Poynor. You can listen on FM (104.4) or online. Paul’s own, rather balletic website (designed by AIG) is copyrightdavis.com, which gives you the opportunity to invite him to lunch.

You can see more of Davis’s work in the forthcoming Autumn issue of Eye (no. 69 vol. 18).

We recently ran into Davis at the ceremony for the D&AD Student Awards, where he was the sponsor for the illustration category, which included work by Jaki Jo Hannan (first prize, below),

and Joseph Baglow (second prize, above).

Shaughnessy, a prolific author, designer, editor (Varoom) and regular Eye contributor, has archived some of last year's shows on graphicdesignontheradio.com. This year’s series (which includes an interview with Eye’s Walters and Esterson) is not available online, so to catch Davis, you’ll have to tune in today.

Eye is the world’s most beautiful and collectable graphic design journal, published quarterly for professional designers, students and anyone interested in critical, informed writing about graphic design and visual culture. It is available from all good design bookshops and online at the Eye shop, where you can buy subscriptions and single issues.
